When you’re hungry and don’t have a lot of dosh, your saving grace is Kim Sing. That is. If you can move fast enough to secure a seat!
Location: Port Phillip Arcade, 228 Flinders Street, CBD, Melbourne, VIC
Ate: #9 Chicken (asked for Special Fried Rice instead of normal rice)
This is definitely one of Melbourne’s best known cheap eats. Trust me, you are not going here for the macros. Instead you are looking at how fast and how full you can get.
The staple request is #9 Chicken. They always serve it with steamed rice but for a $1 more you can get to enjoy the fried rice. Is it worth it? You betcha! It’s absolutely amazing! Well the steamed rice.
The fried chicken. It’s one of those, taste so good that it is bad for you kind of things. And because of that, you should definitely do it.
Just expect the walk back…anywhere to be quite tough.
The interior is like eating at an outdoor stall and not an upmarket venue – which is exactly why you have come here – cheap, good food that you can eat in a pinch. With that in mind, you will have one heck of a time. Definitely a cheap eat and comes highly recommended!
