Matt Damon seems to get lost a lot recently. First we had to save Private Ryan, bring him back from his Interstellar space mission and now he got lost on Mars. Seriously. We could save a lot of money if we just left him.The movie is just as amazing as the origin of the book. It started out with a man and a blog. He started writing out his amazing piece of fiction and then left it online for people to correct scientifically. And over and over again, people provided him with some amazing piece of information. In the end, he was able to make it as accurate as possible. If anything, this could become what some people could use to colonise Mars. Yeah, it seems far fetched, but damn it, it is definitely possible.
Your best bet is to watch the movie before you read the book. I think this is a general rule of thumb. When I accidentally watched a couple of Harry Potter movies and then decided to read the books halfway through. WORST. DECISION. EVER. The books were absolutely amazing and the movies, well, they had to cut things out to make them fit. And the Harry Potter movies left so much out that they fundamentally changed things. But the Martian? Wow-oh-wow. The book adds to it. The movie brought the book to life perfectly.
End verdict? Go watch the movie and then read the book. The laughs that ensue will be worth it.
