And Now We Return To Our Regularly Scheduled Program

It’s been a while. And by a while, close to 2 years… Lots has happened in that time! And if you’ll give me your time, I’ll bring you up to speed. Plus – where we are going to next! So get ready…

Pandemic

When the pandemic first started, like most, I had no idea what was going on. The key thing was to create an immediate close knit group of people around me. That’s when I came up with the idea of my neighbourhood catchups. And that really cemented the relationships I have with my neighbours even more.
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. It definitely takes tragedy to bring out the reality of some people. And no matter what happens, vet people better. And when they show you who they are, hold firm to your principles.
Taking the vaccine didn’t go as planned either. I had bad reactions to the second and the booster. And after all that, still ended up getting the virus and 5 weeks later, I’m still recovering from it.

Dream Job

The biggest thing to have happened, is that I finally got my dream job. Interestingly, back in 2012, as part of my work “career planning”, I wrote, that in 10 years time, I would be a consultant working in data. And lo and behold, that’s exactly what I’m doing now.
However, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. I had to battle imposter syndrome for the first 6 months. Until one day, I was having a conversation with a lady I admired since I first worked with her back in 2019 and something she said really stuck with me. And to realise how far I had come since that time was such an amazing trip – being able to speak to strategy and implementation plans with strong business value, where previously I only ever focused on delivery, is crazy.
I don’t know where this career of mine is going to take me. For now, I’m enjoying the rollercoaster – moving fast, deciding faster and building even quicker – all the while being the guardian for the wider team.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean we should.

Me, on a daily basis

Where to next?

I’ve started my own personal blog and will be migrating most of my thoughts about careers and non-fiction books over there. Plus, I have done some pretty funky 30 day experiments that you will want to read up on. Curious? Head on over to my new website.

The Quests

Now that Melbourne is finally opening up, I’m keen to find the best of what Melbourne has to offer. Keep an eye out for the pages:

  • Coffee
  • Burgers
  • Parmas
  • Hikes
  • Photo Spots

Plus – if you think I have a spot that I have missed, then send it to me and I will review it!
