You Need To Stop, Breathe And Think About What You Do Next

Sure, these are unprecedented times. However in times like this, you need to keep your wits about you and sometimes question the information you get.

My goal for this post is to make you think for yourself.

First of all, the rules around social distancing must be followed. You should respect that. Based on your location, follow the rules – Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 or Stage 4.

And for the love of all things holy, do not panic buy. You do not need to. There is plenty of food to go around.
Here in Australia, we produce THREE times the amount of food needed to supply our people.
So. Enough.

Now, as with all things, we need to accept the reality around us, and plan for what we can do next.

There are some official places to get your Coronavirus stats from like the John Hopkins University. They were the first to create a map for the world and it has been through multiple iterations.

Here are a few more that I find their interface much more user friendly.

I’m a big fan of coronastats.co. The latest iteraction in React (another programming language) is simply amazing!

Alternatively for an overview, check out HealthMaps. Simple. Clean. Effective.

For all my scientist and geeks out there, you will get a real kick out of NextStrain. Yes, you are welcome. I love the transmission feature.

Choose 2 of the dashboards above and check it out once a day. Anything more and you will be pushing yourself into a downward spiral. So much negativity has shown to have an impact on people’s mental health.

And you need to ask yourself, what is it that you are willing to give up?

The amazing house party app? Sure, great idea. But they may have had a data breach. What does that even mean?
Don’t be so quick to give your privacy away. Please stop and think.

Entertained? Sure. Educated? For sure. But always stay informed.

If anything, the times we are in now, reminds me of a film. And no, not an apocolyptic one. Another one. V for Vendetta. If you haven’t seen it, you should. Here’s a trailer.
