Things to try this week (W16 2016)

This weekend is another long weekend for us here in Melbourne and there are a few fun things you can get up to.

1. Anzac Day memorial
Many celebrate this day as just another holiday. I would like to remind you that it isn’t. The day is to commemorate the sacrifice of the brave men and women of the Australian and New Zealand Corps that gave their lives in Gallipoli in World War 1. Lest we forget.

2. Random wandering:
There are so many places that I haven’t visited locally that I am keen to get out there with my camera and go for a wander. Right now, I’m not sure where I’m going to go but there are a few art projects I want to do and this long weekend is the perfect time to execute on them.

3. However if the weather is bad:
There are a ton of things to do when the weather isn’t the best. I’m going to challenge myself to a weekend of learning and outline something I’ve learned. Think it just might be time to pick up my camera, learn a new dish, clean up a space or…who knows. The opportunities are endless. Most of all, I am going to try and find ways to keep myself entertained without needing the internet or electricity… the next post will be interesting!

Things to try this week (W15 2016)

There are quite a few things on in this amazing city and here are my top 3:

1. Como Gardens
This is a local fundraiser for the State Emergency Services and St. Johns Ambulance. There are rides and food and all sorts of goodies on show. The train ride is a definite must. If you’re a fan of old racing cars then you HAVE to go!

Full disclosure: I volunteer at the SES unit that this is being held for. That said, it’s a great weekend out and one I always recommend.

2. Rhoddendam Gardens
Yeah it could be a little wet but this beauty is one to behold. Soon I will be compiling a photo-tour of this place during the weather changes.

Please note that there is a bicycle event taking place on 17/4 around the area where these 2 attractions are being held. I would highly recommend having enough leeway to ensure you are not impacted by the event.

3. Brooklyn’s Finest – For you I do – launch shows

Brooklyn's Finest

One of my fave local bands is launching their next album across the Eastside of Australia. You can get access to their events here.

Full disclosure: I went to high school with the guitarist and whilst I genuinely like the music, I want you to know that I know these people.

Bits and Bobs: Updates All Around

Howdy!

It’s been a few weeks (months?) since I’ve last spoken with you about what’s going on. First of all, I hope you like the new design. Go around and click away. I’ve taught myself a lot about making things easier for my awesome readers and ensured that everything you need is just a few clicks away.

Secondly, I am working on creating a newsletter where I will cover a few things that I don’t normally post on this site. Right now, I am finalising a free gift for you to join my list. If you already have, never fear, I will send it to you as well! I am all about giving and gratitude! You have been generous with your time, and I want to repay you for your kindness.

Third, there will 2 major posting changes. One is a new type of category called “What I’m excited about”. This post will focus on upcoming events and to help you plan out for the weekend, will be released at 6pm on Thursday evening. The second change – the regularily scheduled posts will move to Saturday afternoon at 12pm. And all the while in between? A guaranteed Instagram update of coffee or a shot of a tantalising upcoming review!

Here’s to all the fun we are going to have and I cannot wait to see what new adventures we are going to have.

I would love for you to join my mailing list – you can sign up: The Domestic Traveller Newsletter!
